God, Animals and Veterinarians

God created everything and we all share in this unity of created order.  The connectedness and dynamism of all life: man, animals, and the environment is part of the Divine creation.  Animals, plants and rocks proclaim their own identity and glorify God.  Animals have an inherent dignity, wisdom and purpose. All creatures were made with an inner Logos, an inner reason for being, with their own intrinsic value.  This inner reason for being connects all animals to the Divine Logos-God. It is in Jesus Christ that one finds the beginning and the end of each species and of the whole.

Today is the beginning of a celebration of a new awareness of the renewal of life-a sacramental relationship between man and animals. A higher consciousness restores a sense of holiness between man, animals and the earth.  Harmony on earth can only exist when we are in harmony with the thought of God.  There is no living being that exists by itself; we are all interdependent.

Animals were created an integral part of God's creation.  They were originally created to glorify Him by their presence on earth before the Fall of Man.  Adam and Eve were co-workers with God caring for the Garden of Eden.  They had an apostleship with God.  Our present relationship with animals should be one of communication and sacred responsibility.  Our pets teach us how to love unconditionally; they absorb the emotions of our lives; they take on our diseases-they deserve reverence for life, respect and compassion.

As Veterinarians, we are entrusted with the care and welfare of God's animals. There is a spiritual communication, a sacramental relationship, an intent, that links us with our patients and we open our hearts with love and compassion to come to their humane care.  Holistic Veterinary Medicine is the new paradigm that treats animals as a whole; mind, body and spirit.  Throughout the world, many Veterinarians are using alternative therapies to complement conventionally used methods to benefit animals.

Our pets are subjected to; our high-stress lifestyle, our polluted environment, insufficient exercise, altered sleep habits, poor nutrition, new mutant forms of untreatable viruses, toxic pesticides and chemicals.  In many cases, conventional veterinary medicine has used synthetic drugs to eliminate acute diseases of animals only to be followed by chronic degenerative diseases that surface later in an animal's life.  The most powerful antibiotics or drugs cannot save an animal's life if the vital force of healing is suppressed or lacking.  The ultimate quest of Holistic Veterinary Medicine is to directly stimulate the immune system, strengthen the vital force, and alleviate any disequilibrium in the body using natural methods to stimulate healing.
