What is Holistic Veterinary Medicine?

The philosophy of Holistic medicine is 2400 years old dating back to the Father of Medicine, Hippocrates in 400 B.C.

In Holistic veterinary medicine we are treating the whole animal on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level and not just treating your pet's symptoms or disease. Holistic veterinary medicine seeks to find the underlying cause of disease and not just alleviate symptoms.

Every animal is a living, energetic being who is constantly adjusting to its surrounding environment and attempting to stay in a state of equilibrium or balance. Therefore, holistic veterinary medicine takes into account the animal as an integrated whole being and all the factors that contribute to health and well being; environment, nutrition, lifestyle and emotional happiness.

In holistic veterinary medicine, we acknowledge that the vital force (Chi) of life is in every cell of our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual being. Each cell has its own consciousness. With holistic therapies we can access the body's knowledge of itself. We use natural, non-toxic, vibrational energy therapies that do not have adverse side effects to stimulate your pet's immune system and re-establish harmony and balance.

Antibiotics and steroids can drive an acute problem internally by relieving external symptoms only to be followed later in life with chronic debilitating illness. Holistic veterinary medicine is the treatment of choice for chronic degenerative conditions such as; spinal myelopathy, spondylothesis, luxated patella, heart, liver, kidney, pancreas and gall bladder disease, arthritis, hearing loss, cataracts, paralysis, urinary incontinence, abnormal behavior, chronic constipation, feline leukemia, feline aids, feline urological syndrome, allergies, anemia, pesticide toxicity, antifreeze poisoning, hip dysplasia, hyperthyroidism, heavy metal and chemical toxicity, cushing's syndrome, thrombocytopenia, facial paralysis, bell's palsy, radial nerve paralysis, megaesophagus and tomcat spraying in the house and snake bite.

What is homeopathy?

Health is not just the absence of disease; it is the well being of our pet's whole body on all levels. Homeopathy is a science and an art that uses medicines made from the plant, animal and mineral kingdoms to stimulate the innate healing power of the body-the immune system. Homeopathy is an energy medicine that affects energy changes on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Homeopathy reaches down deep into the cause of illness to affect a cure, not suppression of symptoms. Compared to drugs, the more dilute a homeopathic remedy, the more potent is its curative powers and contains higher energy necessary to effect a change.  Homeopathy dates back to the Father of Medicine, Hippocrates in 400 B.C. It is Hippocrates who said, "iatros"- is the healer who re-establishes the "stenos"- or vital energy in the animal. The principles of homeopathy were formulated in the mid 18th century by Dr. Samuel Christian Hahnemann, a German medical doctor. The validity of his work has been demonstrated throughout the world for 200 years.

How does homeopathy work?

Homeopathy is based on the principle of "Similia Similibus Curentur"-like cures like. Substances that can cause the symptoms of a disease in a healthy person or animal can be used to treat the disease in someone who is ill. A large dose of ipecac can cause vomiting, but a homeopathic, potentized dose can stop vomiting. A toxic substance such as arsenic can kill an animal when swallowed. If that animal is given a homeopathic remedy of arsenic, it can be saved. In homeopathy, a remedy such as arsenic can be diluted so much that there is no physical trace of the substance left, only the vibration or energy of the substance that resonates with the body itself. Homeopathic remedies contain vibrational energy essences that match the patterns present in the diseased state within the ailing patient.

What is a homeopathic remedy?

Homeopathic remedies are made from plants, minerals, drugs, viruses, bacteria, animal substances, normal tissues, flower essences, buds of trees, gemstones, rocks and minerals, allergens and diseased tissues. These remedies do not mask or suppress symptoms; they treat the deepest constitutional causes of disease or illness. Homeopathic remedies are non-invasive,

non-toxic, without adverse side effects and capable of restoring the harmonious equilibrium of the body. They can create a "proving" which is an aggravation of the symptoms. This is caused if the remedy is used more frequently than prescribed or if your pet's immune system is detoxifying too fast for the body to handle. Stopping the remedy for 48 hours alleviates the proving. Homeopathic remedies are subtle energy medicines which contain the energetic frequency or "vibrational signature" of the substance from which they have been prepared. Homeopathic remedies are prepared by a process of repeated serial dilution and succussion that makes them capable of stimulating the healing process. Our homeopathic remedies have no molecular substance in them; they are all energy signatures of the substances. Therefore, they must be kept a foot or more away from anything electrical or magnetic so as not to inactivate them.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture has been used for 3500 years in China. Energy flows throughout the body along meridians or channels of energy flow which are each related to internal organs. Acupuncture points found along their meridians elicit neuroendocrine responses that regulate physiological processes. Acupuncture is a technique for relieving pain or improving the functioning of organ systems by stimulating specific acupuncture points on the surface of the body to eliminate energy blockages and restore normal energy flow throughout the meridians.

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that each human and animal is born with a fixed amount of Chi (vital force energy) and that the energy used up in daily living is replenished by proper food and clean air.

Energy imbalances are caused by external or internal causes that cause symptoms and diseases. In a healthy animal, Chi flows freely along these energy pathways but when the flow of Chi is blocked-pain and disease results.

What is chiropractic for animals?

Animals need chiropractic care just like people do. Horses running races, jumping over barrels, dogs rough playing at home or at the park, dogs jumping out of the back of a truck, cats jumping from counters, windowsills or the bed or couch-each can create subluxations in the body.

These subluxations create limping, soreness and uneven gait. Older animals especially need chiropractic care to keep the energy (Chi) flowing along the meridians to maintain normal health. Arthritic dogs especially are helped by chiropractic adjustments.
